Sean’s verdict to be decided this week

Sean Turnell’s trial outcome is set to be decided this Thursday 29th September 2022, after months of deliberations held behind closed doors.

Professor Turnell, a former advisor to Aung San Suu Kyi, was arrested in the days following the coup and put on trial for allegedly breaching the Official Secrets Act. If found guilty, he faces 14 years in prison.

Australian officials have been banned from attending the hearing, which has been held in secrecy by a military court. But local news sources have told Radio Free Asia that a decision is set to be released on Thursday.

His friends are ‘hopeful’ that the court will deliver a not guilty verdict, and that Sean will be allowed to return to Australia.
