Foreign Minister Marise Payne releases statement demanding Sean’s release

On Sunday night (6 February 2022), Australian Foreign Minister Marise Payne released a statement demanding Sean Turnell’s release. In the statement, Payne calls Sean’s arrest “unjust, and [Australia] rejects the allegations against him.”
The statement is Payne’s first direct written comment on Sean’s situation since 11 February 2021. It received wide media coverage in Southeast Asia—here are examples from the Diplomat and the Bangkok Post.
